Richard F. Nocella passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 3, 2023. He was 85 years old. Rich was predeceased by his parents Louis and Mary Nocella (nee Scavetta). Rich is survived by his loving wife, Rosalie (nee LoGuidice), his daughter, Robin N. Murphy and her husband Michael, his son, Richard J. Nocella, and his granddaughters, Lauren A. Shanker (nee Murphy) and her husband Nevin, and Hannah R. Murphy and her friend Shane Joyce. Rich was also survived by his brother, Louis T. Nocella, and his two nephews, and will be missed by his pup, Gia Rose.
Rich grew up in South Philadelphia and attended South Philadelphia High School for Boys and graduated from Temple University. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Cold War and was stationed in Germany. During his time in the U.S. Army, Rich received the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he worked as a Project Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Philadelphia District and concluded his career with the U.S. Corps of Engineers as Manager of Emergency Operations. Upon leaving the U.S. Corps of Engineers, he continued his career with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Upon his retirement from FEMA, he served as a consultant and trainer for a major Engineering Firm.
Approximately a week or so after September 11, 2001, Rich was retained by a worldwide Engineering Firm to assist in the coordination and debris removal at Ground Zero. He spent several months in New York City overseeing the debris removal and cleanup of the Ground Zero site.
Rich was an avid gardener and a huge Phillies fan. He was a proud, dedicated, and loyal family man attending all of his children's and grandchildren's activities and events. Rich was a loving husband, dedicated father, and doting grandfather. He will be missed dearly, thought of often and remembered forever.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday February 10, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 100 Willow Bend Road, Marlton, New Jersey. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Park View Cemetery at Kirby's Mill, Medford, New Jersey.
