Richard C. Norton

Mr. Richard C. Norton, 99, of Gloucester passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 in Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alexandra (Adams) Norton with whom he shared 59 years of marriage before she passed in 2009. Richard was born April 8, 1919 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of the late Clarence and Gladys (Cochran) Norton. He has been a loyal resident of Annisquam for over forty years, but also lived in downtown Boston from 1956 to 2011. He was a graduate of Stanford University where he received Bachelor of Science degree in 1947, and Master's Degree in 1948. As a Mechanical Engineer, Richard worked for Stone and Webster in Los Angeles in 1948, transferred to their Boston headquarters in 1956, and retired in 1985. Richard had a particular love for sailing and his Hinckley Pilot "Night Owl". He played tennis with his family, and the whole Norton family learned winter skiing together. He was a loyal member of the Annisquam Yacht Club as well as a former member of the Manchester Yacht Club. Richard deeply appreciated the thoughtful kindness of his wonderful nurse care givers for the past five years. Richard is survived by his son Richard C. Norton, Jr. of New York, NY. His two cherished grandchildren Thomas Zachary Adams and Emily Adams as well as his son-in-law, Dr. G. Williams Adams. In addition to his loving wife and parents, Richard is predeceased by his daughter the late Alexandra Adams in 1991. In honoring with Richard's request there will be no visiting hours and funeral services will be private.
