Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Age 85 years.
Richard was born on July 27, 1940, son of the late Pablo and Cruz (Diaz) Orozco in Saginaw. He married Patricia Eddy on March 2, 1968. She survives him. Richard graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School, Class of 1958. He then went on to serve in the United States Army, stationed in Korea from 1963 to 1965. Richard retired from Saginaw Steering Gear after 30 years of dedicated service and was member of U.A.W. Local #699. Richard was very much a social butterfly. Everyone was met with a warm smile and walked away with a new friend. After retirement, he started breakfast gatherings for the retirees at Maria’s Restaurant for 27 years and meeting with friends at Tim Horton’s. He was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and orchestrated the St. Joseph Alumni Luncheons. Richard was very active with his children coaching baseball and being a Cub Scout Leader. Richard was a fan of the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, Lions and of course Go Blue! He always remained active whether it was gardening, volunteering at Covenant Healthcare popping popcorn, attending BINGO and the fish fry at St. Joe’s. Throughout his life, he was an avid bowler and proud to have bowled a 300 game. Richard loved traveling with Pat, cared for the neighborhood cats, birds and other small animals who entered his yard. Richard was very selfless, supportive, loving, dependable and family was everything.
Richard will be sorely missed by his wife, Pat Orozco; daughter, Lisa Orozco; son, Richard Orozco (Michele Premo); his grandsons, whom he adored, Ricky Orozco (Hannah McClean) and Brandon Orozco (Kaylee Cunningham); brothers and sisters, Mary (Gilbert) Casteneda, Paul (Lucy) Orozco, Margaret Olvera, Mary Helen Torres, Rosie Heredia, Juanita (Robert) Jimenez, Mike (Yolanda) Eddy and Jan Burns; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including his special friends, Ben and Maureen Burk and Art Ontiveros. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Amy Orozco, his brothers, Cupertino, Florencio and Joseph Orozco and brothers-in-law, Laz Olivarez, Laz Heredia and John Torres.
The family of Richard would like to extend their appreciation to those who gave exceptional care for him at Covenant Healthcare and Select Specialty Hospital.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18. 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 915 N. 6th Avenue. Fr. Frank Voris, O.F.M., Cap will officiate, with entombment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family, at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Military honors will take place under the auspices of the United States Army and American GI Forum of Saginaw Those planning and expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Joseph Catholic Church.
