Richard Lewallen Posey, age 90, of
Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Sweetwater. He was born on August 27, 1935, in
Novice, Texas.
Richard lived a life rooted in service, family, and community. He proudly served his country, joining the United States Army in August of 1957. After nine years of service, he transferred to the United States Air Force, where he continued his military career until retiring in 1974. His years of service reflected a strong sense of duty and commitment.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Posey; his parents, Franklin Posey and Etta Marie Posey; his sisters, Etta Marie Newman and Geneva Lois Gray; and his brothers, Donald Wayne Posey and James Michael Posey.
He will be deeply loved and missed by his family. He is survived by his sisters, Jeannie Crawford of Grandfalls, Texas, and Frankie Louise Arnold of Robert Lee, Texas. His children include Steven Posey and wife Debra of
Sweetwater, Texas; Toni Paige Parton of Amarillo, Texas; Julie Smith of Apache, Oklahoma; Russell Hall of
Sweetwater, Texas; and Terry Hall and wife Melissa of Roscoe, Texas.
Richard's legacy continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Stephanie McCorkle and child Kaison; Ryan McCorkle; Rick Posey and children Taylor of Abilene, Texas, and Jackson of Lompoc, California; Christopher Hall and wife Kathleen and children Hayden, Henley, Eloise, and Harper of Alvord, Texas; Jesse Hall and wife Jasmine and children Jesse James and Terra of Alvord, Texas; and Matthew Hall and wife Mandy and children Kaleb and Kyler. He is also survived by David Deaver and son Levi, Dusty Deaver, Shannon Mannin and children Micah, Dakota, and Breykn, and Jamie Pacheco.
Richard enjoyed traveling in his RV, especially trips to Big Bend, Ruidoso, and Alto, New Mexico. He was a devoted supporter of the Children's Advocacy Center and the Nolan County Livestock Show. In 2011, the Nolan County Livestock Show was dedicated to Richard and Linda, an honor reflecting their lasting contributions to the community.
Richard Lewallen Posey will be remembered for his service to his country, his generosity, and his unwavering love for his family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
A Military Graveside will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Garden of Memories with Honors performed by the Dyess Airforce Base Honor Guard. A visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at McCoy Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kaleb Hall, Kyler Hall, Chris Hall, Matt Hall, Brenon Moore, Rick Posey, and Ryan McCorkle.
In Lieu of flowers the family ask memorials be made to the Nolan County Livestock Association.
