Richard Proffitt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pomeroy Funeral Home - Croswell on Feb. 15, 2026.
Richard K. Proffitt, 68, formerly of Croswell, passed away at his daughter's home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rick was born January 22, 1958, to Walter Proffitt and Hilda Lorenz in Hamilton, Ohio, and moved to Michigan as a child. Rick graduated from Croswell-Lexington High School in 1978. Rick married Judy Trigger on April 22, 1978, & had two daughters, Sarah and Anna. Judy preceded him in death in 2008.

Rick was a fan of the Pioneers and volunteered his time running the scoreboard for over 20 years for various basketball games. Rick also loved to camp, visiting numerous parks throughout Michigan. He loved to tell a good joke, visit with friends, and listen to all sorts of music! He was a true Michigan sports team fan & U of M fan! Above all, Rick loved his family with his whole heart. He gave his time and assistance to anyone in need, from being a handyman to lending tools or checking in on neighbors and friends.

He always put others before himself and loved unconditionally.

Rick was blessed to find love again & married Renee Stroze at a ceremony on Mackinac Island this past summer. Together, they looked forward to making memories and sharing in the lives of their blended families.

Rick is survived by his wife, Renee; his daughters, Sarah (Troy) Muma and Anna (Chris) Kalbfleisch; his stepsons, David (Jillian) Stroze and Steven (Tia) Stroze; his grandchildren, Abigail, Miles, Alex, and Anderson; and his step-grandchildren Sam, Nick, Jeremy, and Isabella, whom he adored and was always so proud of! He is also survived by his brother, Ralph (Etta) Proffitt of TN.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents Hilda and Al Kliza; his biological father, Walter Proffitt; and his brother William ( Bill )Walker.

Family and friends are invited to join in visitation on Wednesday, February 18th, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with funeral service beginning at 5:00 p.m. An inurnment and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
