Richard Hoyle “Buddy” Pruitt, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday February 13, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 23, 1927 in Guilford County to the late Hollis Franklin Pruitt, Sr. and Bessie Ola Overman Pruitt and was the husband of 71 years to the late Sarah Carnell Jones Pruitt who died in 2019.
Buddy retired after 36 years with Burlington Industries Williamsburg Plant and had formerly worked 11 years with May Hosiery. He was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was on the cemetery committee for several years. Buddy enjoyed going to car races, vacationing in the mountains and was an avid Nascar fan.
Buddy is survived by his sons, Larry Pruitt and wife Doris, Randy Pruitt and wife Patricia “Patty”; grandsons, Rodney Pruitt, Jason Pruitt and wife Jo, and Steven Pruitt; great grandchildren, Josiah, Eli, Emily and Delilah Pruitt; brothers, Johnny Pruitt and wife Nancy, and Wayne Pruitt; a special niece, Judy Boone; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Juanita Perry, Levona Hall, Shelby Jean Pruitt, Patricia Pruitt, Frank Pruitt, Jr. and James Pruitt.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Darrell Massey with the burial to follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Saturday prior to the service and other times at Randy's residence.
