Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathy the passing of Richard Richardson on October 20, 2024. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
Richard Richardson passed away on October 20, 2024, in Macon County, GA. Born on January 30, 1955, Richard's infectious love for life and laughter touched everyone he met. Affectionately known as “Hawk”, he had a profound ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went, and he deeply cherished his family.
Richard spent his career dedicated to cars in one way or another. From an early age, he was mechanically inclined and loved working on cars. He worked in auto detail, repair, and restoration at Ford Motor Company and Appling Body Shop. He also worked for the City of Fort Valley in maintenance. Richard was everyone's mechanic and often spent his free time tinkering with and restoring old cars.
Richard attended the Peach County School System, where he formed lifelong friendships. He loved to pass on his knowledge, life learnings, and automotive skills to the next generation.
A devoted father and grandfather, Richard is survived by his daughter, LaKesha Knighton; stepson, William Tromell Howard; grandchildren, Kaiya Noble, William Carswell III, and Akilah Knighton; sister, Loraine McCrary; brother, Alfred McCrary and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice McCrary; sister, Florence McCrary; and infant son, Richard Tomond Richardson.
He especially loved the Richardson, Oglesby, and Rumph families.Richard enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, always ensuring those around him were smiling and talking. His presence was a source of joy and comfort to those who knew him.Richard's life will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his dedication to his family, and his contributions to the community. He will be greatly missed.
