Richard Joseph Rogers, affectionately known as Dick, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and laughter. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Powers) Rogers, with whom he shared a remarkable 65 years of marriage before her passing on August 24, 2024.
Born on February 27 1932, raised in Middleton, MA, Dick was the son of the late William Clark and Regina Beauvois Clark. He graduated from Holten High School in Danvers.
Dick's early career included roles at Vulcan Electric, Western Auto, and Merkle & Thrower. He truly found his calling as the Buildings and Grounds Manager at The Riverside School. There, his dedication extended far beyond maintenance; he was a beloved figure who brought joy and a watchful eye to the children, and constant entertainment to the staff.
Though he had no children of his own, Dick was a father figure to the world. Alongside Pat, he lovingly helped raise his late brother-in-law Chuck's children for several years. At the Riverside School, he was a constant, nurturing presence for countless students. Even in later years, he continued to look out for others, offering a listening ear and solid advice to his family, the staff and friends at Putnam Farms, and every healthcare professional he encountered.
Dick was unfailingly kind and fun-loving. He possessed a rare ability to make everyone feel special, remembering their stories and genuinely caring about their well-being. A gifted storyteller and joke-teller, he had an infectious sense of humor that truly made people happy.
Dick was a communicant at Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus in both Middleton and Danvers. Pat and he especially enjoyed many years of fun and friendship with the Couple's Club. Outside of his community involvement, he found joy in cooking, the beach in Onset, gardening, dancing, and, of course, telling jokes.
He is survived by Richard and Joan Powers of Cumming, GA, Tom and Jean Powers of Denver, CO, and Donna Powers of Danvers, along with three generations of nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his presence. He is predeceased by his brothers John Eldridge and his wife Grace and Chuck Powers.
Family and Friends are invited to Dick's Funeral Mass at 11AM on Wednesday July 2, 2025 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St. Danvers, Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Visitation will be held Wednesday in the church prior to Mass from 10AM-10:45AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be made to the CMT Research Foundation (cmtrf.org), honoring his spirit of caring for others with his disease.
