Richard M. Sarris

Richard M. Sarris age 61, beloved son of the late James and Mary Joan Sarris; brother of Michael, Margaret "Peggy" Haydl (deceased). Rich passed away March 30, 2024 at Hospice House in Cleveland.
He was born Jan. 5, 1963 in Cleveland (Collinwood) and moved to Willowick in 1969. He loved competing in sports and excelled in many. Rich was a perennial All Star baseball player and a key fixture on some very tough St. Mary Magdalene football teams. He once competed in a Superstars Competition against other local standouts. Richard became Richod became Chod as he was known by classmates and friends. He entered St. Joseph High School in 1977 and played football through J.V. year earning his lifelong scrappy reputation. Chod was a talented artist. He enjoyed sketching in pencil and painting in acrylics. Rich often chose his favorite classic rockers and his pets as subjects. In school his skills were in high demand as a prolific Drivers License alterer. His first job at a local Veterinary Hospital lasted through graduation in 1981. He ultimately found his niche as a highly skilled machinist. He was reliable and took pride in his work. Rich worked in many local shops and factories and retired from Eaton Corp in 2022. Rich loved animals, especially his longtime canine companions Brutus, Molly and Harry. Chod is survived by his beloved cat Mia. In the spring of 2010, Rich fought for and achieved his sobriety. He embraced the opportunity to help others and loved the AA program in particular, being an active member of his home group, never missing a meeting. Rich was soft spoken and kind, always willing to help. He was inspiring to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The Family will receive friends on Friday April 5 from 3-7 PM at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby.
