David J. Stopper went home to the Lord on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Beloved husband of Rosemary (nee Tomlinson) Stopper. Loving father of Regina, David (Patricia), Daniel, Laurence (deceased), Timothy (Julie), Maria (Mike) Smith, Rebecca (Tom) Bockstoce, and Genevieve (Jesse) Kilgore. Grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of four. Brother of Richard and Karen Tobias.
Dave was born on November 3, 1938, to Raymond Stopper and Mary (Eck) Stopper in Richmond, Virginia. Ray was a Kresge store manager and was transferred frequently. The family lived in Cleveland for a short time, where Dave attended St. Joseph High School. When Ray found out he was going to be transferred to Columbus, Dave decided to stay in Cleveland, where he had a job that he loved with Leland Greenhouses. He met Rosemary at a friend's party, and they were married in 1960. Dave started his own plant business, Maria Gardens, in 1971, in Strongsville, and it remains in the family to this day.
Dave loved the plant business, trains, sports, good food, and his family. He generously supported his family, friends in need, and his parish. He had lots of favorite expressions that made people laugh. He was a hard worker and was proud of his success in business. We will miss him greatly.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Dave at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at St. Albert the Great Church, 6667 Wallings Rd., North Royalton, OH 44133. Family will receive friends at the church at 9:00am. Procession to Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park, OH, to follow. Please have any floral arrangements delivered to the church.
