Williamsburg-Richard Raymond Schaefer was born March 5, 1942, at Miller’s Hospital in Williamsburg. The son of Raymond and Florence (Folkmann) Schaefer. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and was a 1960 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1963-1969. Dick worked for a local farmer for 2 years, before working at the Williamsburg Dairy from 1962-1972 and worked evenings for Leighton Jones. In 1972 he became a partner in the business called J & S Farm Supply, for 36 years. In December of 1998 he sold his half of the business to Leighton’s son Tim Jones and he entered retirement. During his retirement, Dick was an active volunteer for the church and school. He also chased after parts for his farming neighbor’s and local auto repair shops. He also was a driver for Capper Auto moving cars here to there. In his free time, he enjoyed going to classic car shows and tractor shows in the summer, which he enjoyed the socializing with other car lovers and the looks you get while driving down the road. He also enjoyed going to Iowa and Iowa State basketball games in the winter. Dick was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher for 60 plus years, along with being on the stewardship, elder, treasurer and the endowment committee. Dick died Saturday, September 13, 2025, on his way home from what he loved best taking his 1961 Pontiac Ventura to a show, Dick was 83 years old.
He is survived by three nephews, Michael Bush of Fairfax, David Bush of Hiawatha, Brad Schaefer (Greer Wellstead) of Des Moines; a niece, Laura (Bryan) Langenberg of Lakeland, Florida and a sister-in-law, Susan Schaefer of North English.
