Richard Karl Schaffer

Richard Karl Schaffer, age 88, of Middleton, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025, at Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis. He was born on September 22, 1937, in Gratiot County, the son of Karl and Gretchen (Pendell) Schaffer. He was a 1956 graduate of Fulton High School. Richard married Janet Upton on September 25, 1959, in Clinton County, a blessed union of 66 years.
Richard spent his entire career owning and operating Shady Nook Farms in Middleton. He enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, camping and traveling.
Richard is survived by his wife Janet; his children Don (Pam) Schaffer, Doug (Deana) Schaffer, Trudy Hogle; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and his siblings Mary Lou Schaffer, Max (Barbara) Schaffer, Stanley (Carole) Schaffer.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Schaffer; son Kelly Schaffer; son-in-law Mike Hogle; his parents Karl and Gretchen; a sister Nancy Lance; and a brother Russell Schaffer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 12 pm at Dodge Funeral Home, Middleton. Interment will be held in Payne Cemetery, Fulton Township. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of services at the funeral home.
