Richard "Dick" Schauer

Richard (Dick) Michael Schauer 80 of Park Rapids died Sunday, October 12 at Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota.
Richard (Dick) Michael Schauer was born on November 13,1944 in Fargo, North Dakota the son of Joe and Myrtle (Hejl) Schauer. In 1950 he was 6 years old he moved to Park Rapids, Minnesota on a farm. He attended school in Park Rapids, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Betty Ann (Snelling) Schauer on November 17, 1962 in Park Rapids, Minnesota. When Dick got older he helped with logging with his horse "Logger", Dick later worked at Dick's Body Shop 1962- 1974 then at Dick's Auto Wrecking 1974-1988, then Sawmill Creek in 1988, then he owned and operated with Betty The Working Horse Harness and Tack Shop 1989 to 2023. Dick also owned a Horse buggy and sleigh rides survive for 55 years.
Dick was involved with the Park Rapids Volunteer Fire Dept, Deputy Sheriff Mounted Posse, Tall Pine Ridder Saddle Club, Bemidji Harness Club, and the Centennial wagon ride. He loved restoring buggies/sleighs, welding and making trailers, training and raising horses, making harnesses, he loved his Family, had many friends, and loved telling stories. He never had a short phone call in his life.
Dick is survived by his Son Michael (Mary) Schauer Grand Rapids MN, His grandchildren, Zac (Emma) Schauer Portland OR, Ericka (Cody) Hudson Yukon OK, Garrick Scudder Fort Bragg, NC, Jackson (Savannah) Schauer Grand Rapids MN, Kellen (Hannah) Schauer Moorhead MN, Ayden Schauer Grand Rapids MN, Owen Schauer Grand Rapids MN and great grandchildren Ellis Hudson and Tuula Schauer and his siblings Phyllis Prichard, Robert (Dana) Schauer, Joyce Hess, June (Roger) Carlson, Kathy (Jeff) Lair, James (Laura) Schauer, Steve (Joann) Schauer. He is proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Myrtle Schauer, wife Betty Schauer, daughter Mary Jo Scudder, infant grandson Tyler Michael Schauer, and siblings Sally Schauer, Mary Sinn, Nina Hardenbrook.
Dick's celebration of life will be at the Park Rapids American Legion, with an 11:30
social hour and 12:00 service followed by a luncheon on Wednesday, October 22. Committal will follow with a horse
and buggy send off at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Jack Pine Stable, 23940 291 1st Ave Akeley MN 56433 which is a therapeutic horsemanship program for people with special needs.
