Richard Joseph Schmidt, lovingly known as Richie among his immediate family, passed away at the age
of 36 on May 11, 2024. Born on March 8, 1988, in Secaucus, NJ, Richie made his home in Fort
Lauderdale, FL, where his vibrant spirit touched many lives.
Richie is survived by his beloved mother, Margaret Schmidt and his father, Robert Grabowski. Richard was a cherished son. He leaves behind his dedicated sister, Lauren Brooke (Masci) and her husband Brian along with his adored nephews Camden and
Connor; his devoted brother, Jeff Masci and sister-in-law Christina Perez, along with his beloved nephews Eli,
Lucas, and Alec Masci along with Lauren and Jeff's father who was there for him Frank Masci. Richie was also dearly loved by his grandmother Corrine Martin, uncle Bill Schmidt, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins also Godmother Eileen Kuharich and family member John Schweitzer. He joins his sister Meghan Grabowski and Godfather Evan Kuharich in eternal peace.
A graduate of Wayne Valley High School, Class of 2006, Richie found his calling in the hospitality industry
in Miami. His passion for dancing, fervent support of the NY Mets, and boundless love for his nephews
defined his joyful existence. Richie's infectious laughter and magnetic presence made him the life of
every party.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Falowski Kalis Mcintee Funeral Home on Sunday, May
19th, from 4-7 pm, located at 900 NW 5th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. A celebration of Richie's life
will be held at St. Jerome's Catholic Church on Monday, May 20th, at 1 pm, located at 2533 SW 9th Ave,
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315. Following the service, we will gather to lay Richie to rest at Evergreen
Cemetery, 1300 SE 10th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donations be made in Richie's memory to Henderson Behavioral
Health or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
Richie's radiant smile, generous heart, and joyous spirit will forever be missed by his family, friends, all who were lucky enough to know him. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in our hearts always.
