Richard Owen Schofield passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on September 8, 1929, to the late Owen and Mary Schofield, Richard was a man whose presence was characterized by a loving spirit, kindness that knew no bounds, and a generosity that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and his sister Barbara. He attended Coyle Cassidy High School in Taunton, where he laid the foundations for a life of service and community involvement.
After completing his education, Richard dedicated many years to the Boston Post Office as a postal worker. His reliability, warm smile, and affable nature made him a beloved figure among both colleagues and the community members he served. His work ethic and commitment to his role were evident in the meticulous way he approached his duties.

Richard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954. During his four years of service, he exemplified dedication, courage, and a strong sense of duty, contributing to the safety and strength of the nation during a pivotal time in history. His experiences in the Navy shaped his character and instilled values that he carried with him throughout his life.
Richard's passion for community service was evident through his active involvement with the Knights of Columbus. His faith and dedication to the values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism were cornerstones of his life. He also served as an active board member and secretary for the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), advocating for the rights and benefits of federal workers and retirees.
One of Richard's most engaging interests was genealogy. As a member of the Genealogy Society of Boston, Richard delved into the stories and histories of countless families, tracing lineages and connecting generations. His work in this field was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his deep appreciation for the bonds that tie us together and the rich tapestry of our shared heritage.
Those who knew Richard will remember him for the words that best described him: loving, kind, and generous. He was a man who gave without expecting anything in return and whose acts of kindness were as numerous as the stars. His warmth and compassion were the hallmarks of his character, and his legacy is one of unconditional love and selfless service.
Richard's memory will be cherished by his extended family, friends, and all the lives he touched. His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but the memories of his gentle spirit and benevolent heart will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
As we bid farewell to Richard Owen Schofield, we celebrate the remarkable life of a man who was truly a beacon of light in the lives of many. His journey on earth may have concluded, but his influence will endure forever in the hearts of those he loved and served. Rest in peace, Richard, and thank you for the precious legacy you have left behind.
