Richard S. Schumann, 85, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, October 14, 2022. Born in Wilmington on October 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Fred and Catherine (Reskovitz) Schumann.
Rich attended St. Elizabeth's Grade School and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. He proudly served in the Delaware Army National Guard and was called to active duty in the United States Army, 1049th Transport Company, during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. Rich joined his family's roofing business, Schumann Roofing – established in 1921, and eventually served as co-owner and operator prior to his retirement.
Rich was a faithful and active member of St. Elizabeth Parish throughout his life. He was also a member of the Wilmington Turners for more than 50 years. An avid camper, he enjoyed time at Brandywine Meadows as well as square dancing.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Fred Schumann.
Rich will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Marian E. (Nasatka) Schumann; his daughters, Carol Ann Schumann and Deanna Bilecki; his grandson, Nicholas Bilecki; his nieces, Bonnie and Beth and his nephews, Mike and Mark.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, October 20 from 9:00 – 10:30AM.
