Richard B. Shimek

Richard Benjamin Shimek passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Dick was born September 12th, 1933, to Ben and Ida Shimek. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1951. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served 4 years.
He married Virginia Kluball in March of 1957 at Bethany Lutheran Church. He worked at various jobs including Marathon Corp, Appleton Oil Company and retired from the Appleton Public School system in 1999.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 38 for over 60 years and served as Commander of the Post from 1974-1975. He also ushered for many years at Bethany Lutheran Church. He loved hunting and fishing and being with his Legion buddies.
Dick is survived by his wife Virginia; daughter, Kristie (Darin) Mastey, sons: Tim (Michelle) Shimek and Wayne (Terry) Kolberg; grandsons: Sullivan Shimek and Troy Kolberg, granddaughter Lucy Shimek and great grandson, Alex Kolberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ben & Ida Shimek, and sisters Betty and Vivian.
According to Dick's wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held at Brettschneider-Trettin. No military services upon his request.
