Richard C. Simpson, a proud veteran and devoted animal lover, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Green Valley Care Center. He was 82 years old.
Born on February 5, 1943, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Richard honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In his personal life, Richard found great joy in nature and his local community, particularly enjoying his time spent feeding the birds and squirrels.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Erna Simpson, his "mom" Helen Meyer, and his sisters, Jo Shampine and Terry Taddonio
Richard is survived by his son, Richard M. Simpson of Fletcher, North Carolina; his forever daughter-in-law Tiffany Simpson, his adopted daughter Shannon Kamer and granddaughter Lakin Lewis; his brother Charles Meyer (Marilyn) of Georgetown, Indiana; and his brother Michael Meyer (Laura) of Borden, Indiana.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Cemetery. Attendees are asked to meet at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to line up for the procession.
Following the service, all friends and family are invited to lunch and a celebration of Richard's life at the 40/8 Voiture #1250 (221 Albany St., New Albany, IN, 47150).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
