Richard Sims Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 28, 2023.
Richard H. Sims was born August 31, 1942 in Kansas City, MO, he grew up in Overland Park, KS. He graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 1960. He attended St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, CO, and after one year God called him out of clergy and into family/business life. He finished his bachelor's degree in Business Accounting and a minor in Economics at St Benedict's College in Atchison, KS. One week following graduation, he married the love of his life, Sheila Frances Othic, from North Kansas City, MO on June 13, 1964.
His work career began at Sears in their Controller Training Program in 1964. After 12 years, he resigned as Accounting Group Controller. In 1976, he then accepted a position as Vice President of Operations and Finance of a wholesale Distribution Company in Denver, CO. In 1978, he formed a partnership and successfully developed and installed software packages for wholesale distribution companies. The company was sold in 1981. In 1982 after months of prayer and introspection, he and Sheila began a new direct response communications company called The Product Line (TPL). The company was comprised of an Inbound 800# Division, an Outbound Telemarketing Operations Division and Fulfillment Center. The call center grew to over 500 employees in two locations: Denver and La Junta, CO. The company managed client websites and the TPL Fulfillment Center shipped orders. The company was sold in 2000, and he and Sheila retired in May 2002.
Rich is survived by his wife, Sheila, of 59 years, and four daughters: Marnie [Steve] Bell, Stephanie [Jon] Petersen, Kari [Jack] Taylor all of Denver, CO and Debbie [Rob] Ells of Magnolia, TX. Between them all, there are 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by all of them as the "Best Papa/Papa G" on the planet. Rich is also survived by his sister, Linda Reilly from Austin, TX and many more beloved family members.
Rich's adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors was the foundation of many family vacations in the mountains, boating on lakes and the beautiful Florida Gulf Coast. He was a kind, loving and faithful man of God and he will forever live in our hearts.
See service details below.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Rich's honor to Healing Through The Power Of Prayer, Reverend Mr. Brian J. Kerby with Intercessors of the Trinity. Sheila, and families,
Joe & I share your sadness during this difficult time.
We knew Rich& Sheila through St Francis Cabrini.
Several winters ago we were delighted that they joined us in our Florida home
Rich was a gentle compassionate and prayerful man , one who made you feel comfortable at all times
Bless his soul

Sheila and family,
I so remember when Rich shared with me the challenges you faced when Rich was looking for financing to start the new company. After having been turned down by more than one bank, Rich again went to the Lord and asked for guidance. After much time in prayer, the last bank loaned the money and the rest is history. Rich was a fervent prayer warrior who had more notes on the margins of his Bible than anyone I have known. It is so good to know your family is "sold out" for the Lord - such a great example for all your extended family as well as friends. We miss Rich but know it won´t be long before we´re reunited. It truly has been a blessing to have know Rich and you, Sheila. I know God will continue to lead and guide you and your family.
