Frank E. Smith Funeral Home and Crematory - LancasterRichard “Smitty” Smith, 90, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Fairhope Hospice Pickering House. He was born on Saturday, February 9, 1935, to the late Forrest and Martha (Campbell) Smith.
Smitty was a retired Master Technician from Battelle and a proud United States Army Veteran. He was a foster parent for 20 years through Franklin County Children’s Services. Smitty and his wife, Deb, rescued many cats and dogs for over 35 years. He also dedicated time volunteering at Fairhope Hospice Pickering House. Smitty enjoyed the outdoors and never sat still, he always had to be up doing something.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Deborah “Deb” (Good) Smith; children, Laura (Jeffrey) Allton and Keith (Peggy) Smith; grandchildren, Erica (Brett, deceased) Kim, Aimee Cluse, Lindsey (Ryan) Smith, Kyle (Heather) Smith, and Kelsey (Jalan) Swanson; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Sandra Caldwell; first wife, Janet Kuhn; beloved dog Aimee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Martha; brother, Jack Smith and sister, Marsha Trimmer.
Caring Cremation® has taken place through Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025 from 2-4pm at Shalom United Methodist Church, 4925 Plum Road NW, Carroll OH 43112.
Memorial contributions can be made in Smitty’s name to Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130 and the Fairfield County Humane Society, 1721 Granville Pike, Lancaster, OH 43130.
