Richard W Stephens, 71
Richard Stephens was called into The Schwartz by the Know-It-All Yoghurt on August 23, 2025. Those who knew and loved Richard will remember fondly his love for Mel Brooks films, science fiction, Looney Tunes, good music and his family.
Richard was born in Espanola, NM and settled in Las Cruces, NM. He was married to Leslie Blake Stephens for 42 years and she was his life, his universe and everything. Together they had a son, Jason, and a daughter, Rachel, who both turned out alright. A master tinkerer and “Jack of all trades, master of none,” Richard was known for his willingness to help others with car troubles or to simply help build whatever was needed. Richard enjoyed teaching anyone that was willing to learn from him. He may not have been one for crowds, but he tolerated them well if they were family. His greatest joy was being a father and grandfather.
Richard is preceded in death by his Parents Ward and Rebecca Stephens and granddaughter Samantha (Rachel). He is survived by his wife; Leslie, children; Jason (Desiree) and Rachel (Brian), four grandchildren; Andrea, Erin, Alexander and Dylan; sister Larrayne (Stan), brother James (Monica) and ten nieces and nephews.
