Richard Stowers

Richard West "Dick" Stowers, 96, of Pampa, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 in Pampa.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at First United Methodist with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor at First United Methodist in Levelland, officiating. Private family burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Dick was born on March 7, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Dr. James E. Stowers and wife, Laura Smith Stowers. He attended schools in Kansas City, Kemper Military School, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Missouri where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. Dick also did some post graduate work at the University of Texas. With his Kemper Military School background, Dick proudly served in the United States Air Force and Reserve.
Following the girl of his dreams, Dorothy Dale Culberson, he moved to Pampa in 1950 to work for Dick Hughes, building the Hughes Building and many other residential homes. On February 4, 1951, he and Dot were married in Pampa.
In January 1951, Dick began working at Culberson Chevrolet with his soon to be father-in-law, Frank Culberson. In September 1965, Dick became a partner with Culberson and the dealership became Culberson-Stowers Chevrolet, Inc. The dealership began with the Chevrolet line, eventually growing into carrying the GMC, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, and Toyota lines of vehicles. Additionally, the leadership of the dealership subsequently included adding son Richard, Jr.
Always concerned about his adopted community, Dick showed his dedication and commitment by being a huge supporter of Pampa and the Texas Panhandle. He was a member of many organizations in town including, but not limited, to being president or chairman of the following: Pampa Junior Chamber of Commerce, Pampa Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Pampa Industrial Foundation, Adobe Walls Council of the Boy Scouts of America, United Way, Salvation Army, Tri-State Seniors Golf, and First United Methodist Church. Acknowledging his community involvement and service to youth, Dick was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts. Additionally, the Chamber of Commerce awarded Dick the Citizen of the Year and Culberson-Stowers Business of the Year. For those in the community who knew Dick, and you saw him coming through the door, you knew he was on a mission, and it would be difficult to say no to him as he dedicated himself to making Pampa a better place to live and work.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura Stowers; brother, James E. Stowers, Jr; and sister-in-law, Virginia Stowers.
Dick is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy of the home; daughter, Susie Jasurda of Orland Park, Illinois; son Richard W. Stowers, Jr. and wife, Janet of Pampa; and son Frank K. Stowers and wife Kim of Midland; seven grandchildren, Sean Stowers and wife Danielle of San Antonio, Kelley Lawrence and husband Rhett of Allen, Jake Jasurda and wife Jessica, Jeff Jasurda and wife Amelia, all of Chicago, Illinois, A. J. Jasurda of Buxton, Maine, and Liz Stowers, and Katt Stowers, both of Midland; one foreign exchange "daughter", Regina Stucchi; and eight great grandchildren.
For their dedicated care, the family wishes to thank Interim Hospice and specifically Barbara Davis. Additionally, the following caregivers patiently provided Dick with loving care: Reyna Portillo, Digna Chilton, Rosie Whiteley, and Lorena Rodriguez.
