Richard Swatlowski, age 86 of Grand Forks, ND passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Richard Joseph Swatlowski was born September 26, 1938 in Walsh Co., ND. He grew up in the country near Ardoch where he attended school. On September 8, 1960, he married LaVerne Czapiewski in Grand Forks, ND. Together they made their home in Grand Forks and were blessed with five children. Richie, as he was known to many, was a skilled carpenter and worked at various jobs including at Crystal Sugar, in Potato Sales in East Grand Forks, and as a Carpenter for UND. He worked for Hussey, Ryan, Voiss, Heyd and Asleson Construction Companies before starting Swat Construction.
Richie was a faithful member of St. Mikes Parish where he enjoyed ushering, the Knights of Columbus and was a 60-year + member of The Eagles Aerie #350. You could find Richie at River City Speedway every Friday night enjoying the races until his health prevented him from attending. In his younger years, Richie was the drummer for the band the Dakota Playboys. He loved old country music and fishing but getting dressed up and going out in his hat and boots was one of his favorite things.
Richie is survived by his daughters, Diane Morton of Bedford, TX, Donna (Tim Holliday) Swatlowski of Bedford, TX, Debra Cowger of Boise, ID; son Dale (Febe) Swatlowski, of New Braunfels, TX; brother Harold (Mildred) Swatlowski of Grand Forks; daughter-in-law Karen Swatlowski of Grand Forks; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Steve Swatlowski; wife LaVerne Swatlowski; son Darin Swatlowski; sisters Dorothy Grandboise, Delphine Heath, Irene Nelson and Lorraine Brittian; brothers Duane Swatlowski and Ernest Swatloski and granddaughter Jessica Swatlowski.
