Richard Thomson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home on Dec. 30, 2025.
Richard T. Thomson Jr., 87, of Punta Gorda, FL and longtime resident of North Granby, CT, passed away peacefully at home with loving family by his side. Richard was a remarkable man - kind and caring, honest and loyal, strong and determined. He grew up in Boston, graduated from Boston College High School, and shortly thereafter joined the United States Marine Corps.
Richard went on to serve a distinguished 22-year career as a Naval Aviator in the Marines, which took him overseas. During his first 12-month tour in Vietnam, he flew 311 combat missions, exemplifying courage, dedication, and service to his country. Following his military career, Richard began a second professional chapter in the computer industry. After earning his MBA from Northeastern University in Boston, he became Director of Field Services for Data General Corporation.
Above all, Richard was always there for his family, offering unwavering support and encouragement in all their endeavors. He had a rare ability to connect with anyone. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan P. Thomson; son, Ronald T. and wife, Talene Thomson; daughter, Amanda L. Thomson; grandsons, Nicholas S. and Jacob R. Thomson; granddaughter, Katherine E. Thomson; brother in-law, John Stone; sister in-laws, Rosemary and Maureen Thomson, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by both parents, Richard T. Sr. Thomson and Roxy M. Ryan; brothers, Gerald J. and Dennis C. Thomson.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
