Richard Tomaszewski Obituary

Rick Tomaszewski, of Severn, Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a life filled with love, laughter, and service.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Rick was a proud son of the Steel City and a lifelong, die-hard fan of both the Steelers and the Penguins. His loyalty to his hometown teams never wavered, no matter where life took him.
In 1968, Rick enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he trained in computer maintenance and proudly served his country for eight years. His time in the Navy took him to Fort Meade, Maryland, and Wahiawa, Hawaii - places that shaped his career and deepened his love for technology and the sea. After leaving the service, he continued his work as a government contractor, dedicating his career to the world of computer technology - from maintenance and support contracts to workforce management.
That same year, 1968, Rick married the love of his life, Carol. Together they built a marriage that lasted 57 wonderful years, raising three children and cherishing every moment spent with their beloved grandson.
The family spent ten memorable years living in Hawaii, where Rick could often be found at the beach with family and friends, snorkeling, laughing, and soaking up the sun. Those days by the ocean remained some of his fondest memories.
A proud patriot, Rick always flew the American flag and handed out patriotic pins with a smile. He never missed an opportunity to share a "dad joke" and brighten someone's day.
Since 2001, Rick had been a devoted member of Bereaved Parents, finding comfort and community among others who shared his experience. He also established and managed the David W. Tomaszewski Memorial Scholarship, a cause close to his heart that will continue his legacy of generosity and support.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert, and his beloved son David. He is survived by his brother Leonard, his devoted wife Carol, his daughters Beth Tremblay and Lara Hunter, and his cherished grandson Joshua Tomaszewski.
In lieu of flowers and in Rick's memory, donations may be made to the David W. Tomaszewski Memorial Scholarship Fund via check or with Zelle using the email address [email protected].
His humor, patriotism, and deep love for his family will be remembered always - and we know he's somewhere over the rainbow now, telling a great "dad joke" with a smile.
