He was born in Amsterdam on April 28, 1948, a son of the late John and Theresa (Belcher) Tyler. He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. He served in the National Guard from 1969 to 1976.
Toby was employed as a Gas Mechanic for many years by the former Niagara Mohawk and later National Grid until his retirement.
He was very involved with his three sons and family. He coached Baseball and Football and would attend many games throughout their lives. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and enjoyed fishing and being with his grandchildren and family.
Toby married Linda A. (Tessitore) Tyler on June 21, 1970. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his children, Christoper (Michelle) Tyler of Amsterdam and Sean J. (Martha) Tyler of Amsterdam. His cherished grandchildren, Jordan, Mya, Ava, Sophia, Paige, Dylan and Chase Tyler. His brother and sisters, Robert (Christine) Tyler, Cynthia (Bill) Fendsack and Thalia Velicky. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Linda) Tessitore, Joseph and Donna Tessitore and Dan (Carol) Thompson. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his dear son, Patrick J. Tyler in 2006.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff of the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility's Third Floor for their care and also to Community Hospice.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 17,2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis TN 38105 or to Community Hospice, 310 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208. Started working with Toby in Amsterdam at NiMo in 1974 we had a great time, always enjoyed being around him. Sorry Linda to hear of your loss. He will be missed by you and your family I'm sure.
