Richard James Verrett, Sr. was born on March 1, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Ethel and Louis Verrett. Richard entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Jerrelyn Willis Verrett.
Richard attended New Orleans Public Schools. After completing his education, he began a long career with Automotive Clutch and Brake and worked there until retirement.
Richard was born and raised in New Orleans; however, in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina he relocated to Atlanta, GA with his wife Jerrelyn. He was a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Church until relocating to Georgia. He attended Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Atlanta, GA.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Karen (Al) Moses, Sandra (Robert) Vincent, Richard, Jr. (Gloria), and Floretta (Mark) Singleterry; his grandchildren Jamila, Ashton, Nicholas, Alexia, Raven, Richard III, Jeremey, Keila, and Tumeka; great grandchildren, Blake, Alexander, Chrissy, Mason, and Nicholas; Grand-dog "Rocko aka Dog"; his brother Leo (Rosalee)Verrett and sister Veronica Randolph as well as his nieces, nephews, other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Louis Verrett, Brother Louis Verrett, Jr.; four sisters, Teresa Verrett, Ethelyn Verrett, Hilda Verrett, and Helen Verrett.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Services at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 5621 Elysian Fields Ave, on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Internment – St. Louis Cemetery No. 3. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue. Please visit www.rhodesfuneral.com to sign the guestbook.
