Edna Whitley Verrett
March 21, 1942 – March 17, 2025
Edna Whitley Verrett, affectionately known as Antie, Pap, and Noodie, was born on March 21, 1942, in Slaughter, Louisiana, to Manuel and Minnie Whitley. She later moved to the Greater New Orleans area, where she built a life filled with love, faith, and devotion. On March 17, 2025, at 9:15 PM, Edna passed away peacefully at the age of 83.
For 68 and a half years, Edna was one of Jehovah's Witnesses, dedicating herself to Jehovah's service. She was baptized on September 24, 1956, at just 14 years old. For 50 of those years, she served as a regular pioneer, wholeheartedly sharing the good news of God's Kingdom. Her faith was unwavering, and she exemplified Jesus' teachings not only in her ministry but also in the kindness and love she showed to everyone she met. No one escaped her witnessing-her love for Jehovah and Jesus was deeply rooted in her heart and soul. (Psalm 40:8)
Edna leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, Eddison Verrett Sr., and her beloved children, Eddison "Eddie" Verrett Jr. (Duwyna) and Eleanor Verrett Barrow (Mark). She was a cherished grandmother to Tionne Johnson (Devin), Marcus Barrow, Madison Barrow, Eddison "Trevon" Verrett, Mason Barrow, Meadow Barrow, and Tylon Verrett, and a loving great-grandmother to Dallas Johnson, Kayson Dior Barrow Kennedy, and Kairo King Barrow Downey.
She is also survived by her dear brother, Percy "Bob" Whitley, and her loving in-laws, Selena Verrett, Linwood Scott (Emma), Charles Brown, and Sandra Scott Brown. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces, nephews, cousins, and all those who were blessed to know her.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Minnie "Hannah" (Stevens) Whitley, and her siblings, John "Peter" Whitley, Mikel Whitley, Clara Whitley Stevenson, and Ida Whitley Myles.
Her life was one of faith, love, and dedication, and her presence will be deeply missed. Though she is no longer with us, the lessons she taught and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
