Cheryl Lynn Verrett was born on January 11,
1972, to the late Johnny Lee Verrett and Cleo
Robinson Verrett of Thibodaux, Louisiana. She
departed this life on 28 July 2025 in Lorton, VA.
She was a 1990 graduate of Thibodaux High
School and matriculated at Southern University
and A&M College and Nicholls State University,
earning a B. A. degree in General Studies
(Education) from Nicholls State University, and
an M.S. in Education Technology from American
Intercontinental University, Atlanta, Georgia.
Cheryl Lynn Verrett was a strong believer in education. She taught school
for two years in East Baton Rouge Parish before relocating to Northern
Virginia in 2000. There, she worked for Northern Virginia Academy of Early
Learning, a school system that had five campuses, and served in a variety
of positions starting at teacher, trainer, administrative floater, Assistant
Director, and Director from 2000 to 2022. In the fall of 2022, she took a
position as a kindergarten teacher at Springfield Estates Elementary, in
Springfield, VA.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Zion
Baptist Church in Thibodaux, LA. Cheryl was a dedicated servant of God,
making him the head of her life. She loved to sing and was in the youth and
adult choirs. She used her voice and her illness as a way to minister to
others.
Cheryl was an active member of the First Mount Zion Baptist Church
located in Dumfries, VA, where she used her beautiful alto voice to make a
joyful noise to the Lord as a member of the Women's Choir and Praise
Team. She was also an active member of My Praise, My Worship Gospel
group. In addition to singing, Cheryl had a passion for community service
and sisterhood. In 2015, she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc., Lambda Kappa Omega chapter, where she served in a
variety of roles, most notably as Director of the LKO Ivy Notes singing
group.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Johnny L. Verrett and
Cleo Robinson Verrett. She leaves to cherish her memories: one brother,
Carlos J. Verrett of Sacramento, CA; twin sisters, Pamela C. Verrett of
Thibodaux, LA, and Paula T. Verrett of Lorton, VA; and two nephews, Jon
Christopher and Isaiah Myles Verrett of Fairfield, CA, and godchildren, a
host of cousins, other relatives, coworkers, and friends.
