MORTON – Richard Emil Wehde, 84, beloved son of Victor and Helen (Orlich) Wehde, passed away peacefully in his home on June 7, 2025.
He was born on January 6, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. He married Joan Bauer on December 4, 1982, in Carol Stream, Illinois.
Rich is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan Wehde; his children, Deborah Fliegel (Keith), Rhonda Wehde, Linda Folster; daughter-in-law, Kim Wehde; stepdaughter, Amber Vietzen (Steve Van Scoyoc) ; nine grandchildren, Anthony, Krystal, Kyle, Jessica, Victor, Zach, Michael, Brittany, Courtney; five great-grandchildren, AJ, Isaiah, Alyanna, Olivia, William and two more on the way and his brother, Kenneth Wehde. He is also survived by his beloved pet, Sebastian (Sabby). Rich also leaves many other family members who will sadly miss him. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Wehde; sister, Elaine Czech (Joe) and brother, Norbert Wehde (Helen) and sister-in-law, Karen Wehde.
Rich was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His time here on earth was one marked by love, compassion, hard work, and his faith in God. His passing will leave a void in the hearts of his family, friends and the many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Remember also his unique sense of humor and how it shaped his interactions with others!
After he retired, Rich took an active role in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grands by teaching them skills such as home repairs, art skills, engaging in play, enjoying fun times at the trailer while also sharing his life experiences and wisdom.
Rich had three major professions throughout his life starting as an entrepreneur at age 14 with small cement jobs, co-founder/owner of Wehde & Southwick general contractors, owned and operated WeeDee's Weenies. Throughout his time, when it allowed, Rich enjoyed such hobbies as collecting old tools, whittling (carving shapes out of raw wood). He and his brother (best friend) Kenneth were also avid coin collectors.
Memorials may be made to Covenant Living of Windsor Park.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Rich was a true gentleman, and also a dedicated member to International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft workers, Local 56. It was honor to know Rich, we enjoyed his quick response with some great laughter as he made a point to always come to our meetings. Rich will be deeply missed.
From his friend Doug Johnston, President of Local 56.
