Richard Anthony Willig, 93, of Montgomery, MA, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center. Richard was born in
Springfield, MA on June 21, 1931, the son of the late Anthony J. and Anne (Sadlon) Slater. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his wife Eleanor M. (Lindwall) Willig, his son Steven L. Willig, daughter Karen A. Willig, and brother Alfred A. Willig. Richard is survived by three devoted children Anthony A. Willig and his partner Cheryl Sethares of Mashpee, MA, and Matthew E. Willig and his partner Javier Cortes of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Jane E. Feinstein and her husband Robert of Yarmouth Port, MA, and sister Janet Paris of Houston, TX. He also leaves two grandchildren Samantha Feinstein and Abigale Feinstein. Richard attended Springfield Technical High School class of 1949. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was a combat veteran of the Korean War and an eyewitness to the end of the war. He held the Korean people in high regard. Back home to new family responsibilities he became a skilled carpenter and eventually started his own company, Richard A. Willig Company, Inc. His many customers became his friends and relied on his skill, honesty and integrity to get the job done right. He retired to Montgomery, MA in 1998 and lived there until his death. Richard loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His house in the country was his pride and joy. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Westfield, MA. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 10am 11am at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street,
Springfield, MA, followed by a Funeral Home Service at 11am. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery in
Springfield, MA. Memorial contributions maybe made in Richards name to St. Johns Lutheran Church.
