Richard Marshall Wolter, 78, passed away on November 7, 2025. Born in Malden, Massachusetts on March 29, 1947, he was son to George and Adeline (Morset) Wolter. After graduating from Niles West High School Richard went on to join the U.S. Navy in 1966 for three years. During that time, he enjoyed collecting money from all the different countries he visited. Upon returning home he settled in Des Plaines, started a family, and worked at Symons Corporation for 23 years. Later, after moving to Rockford, he spent almost 11 years at the Tester Corporation as their human resources manager before retirement in 2011. Richard was very thorough, strong-willed, and had a hard work ethic; At home, he was a simple person who enjoyed simple pleasures- a good day on the golf course, casting a fishing pole, strengthening his religious faith, or using his handyman skills to build and fix things around the house. He also enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bears, as he was a diehard fan. Later in life he found great joy in a good movie, visits with his daughter Joyce and her dog Ariel, and indulging his sweet tooth. When all is said and done, Richard was a great man and will be deeply missed and cherished by all of those who loved him.

Richard is survived by his children Joyce M. Wolter, Richard A. Wolter, Mary P. Tapia, Elizabeth A. Cross, and their mother Patricia A. Wolter; numerous grandchildren, and several nieces. He is predeceased by his parents George and Adeline; as well as his three brothers Michael, John and George Wolter.

A private graveside service will take place for Richard at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois where he will be buried with his parents and one brother. A very special and heartfelt thank you to Serenity Hospice for all of the genuine compassion and care they provided. To send online condolences or share memories, please visit www.fitzgeraldfh.com
