Richard Wright Obituary

Mr. Richard Hill "Buddy" Wright, age 74, of Roopville (Roosterville Community) passed away January 11, 2026.

His funeral will be held Friday January 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Randy King and Bro. Andy Whitley officiating. His body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Mr. Wright was born February 28, 1951 in Heard County to the late Homer Green Wright and I. D. Hill Wright.

He was an active member of Unity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also led the congregational music and enjoyed attending gospel singings in the local area. He lived his faith as an example for others to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

One of his favorite Bible passages was II Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing."

He worked more than 20 years for Douglas Lomason refining and buffing automobile parts. He was a quiet, humble man who appreciated the simple things in life. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes.

Survivors include: his wife, Sara Wright; two children, Cynthia Shelnutt (Stephen) and Jeremy Wright (Janice); four grandchildren: Noah Shelnutt, Carter Shelnutt, Madison Wright, and Aiden Wright; three sisters and a brother-in-law: Mary Nell Hendrix, Janice Meacham (J. L. Meacham), and Sally Moore; a sister-in-law, Gail Wright; a brother-in-law, Jerry Woodard; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the following sisters, brothers, and in-laws: Norma and Julian Simpkins, Sara and Bobby Pitts, James A. Hendrix, James Wright, Jeanette Wright, Sue Davis Woodard, G. T. Davis, and Steve Moore.
