Donald Wade Thomas, 92, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at home.
HIs memorial service will be held Saturday January 10, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home.
Donald grew up in Columbus, Georgia, the older son of the late Wade W. Thomas and Louise Faison Thomas. He attended Truett McConnell College and Mercer University. He was a Baptist minister, serving several churches in Georgia. His last church was in Newnan in the mid-1970s. After retiring from the ministry, he continued to be a passionate explorer of the Bible.
His additional lifework included ownership of a cabinet shop, gunsmithing, and building, remodeling and restoring houses. In recent years, Donald enjoyed fishing, boating and camping, and he had a passion for planting and maintaining his flower beds. He loved to pass the time by reading his extensive collection of Civil War books and watching the Atlanta Braves.
For the past 33 years, Donald shared his life with Dorothy Brogdon Thomas, who was a devoted and loving wife and partner. She cared for him with diligence and compassion, especially in recent years when he needed increased attention. For the last 12 years, Donald's loyal 4-legged companion, Bo, was a constant presence at his side. Donald made sure that Bo was never wanting for a treat.
Donald is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his two sons: Fred Thomas and his wife, Sheila of Franklin, Georgia, and Timothy Thomas and his partner, Richard Hatfield of Columbus, Georgia; four grandchildren: Amy, Katie, Phillip, and Trenton; seven great-grandchildren: Ryan, Nathan, Caiden, Reagan, Jovi, Isaac, and Grayson; his niece, Koren; his nephew, Denny; a devoted sister-in-law, Janice Brogdon and her family of Carrollton; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Brogdon and his wife Donna and their family of Waynesville, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his younger brother, Denny Ray Thomas, Sr., and his stepson, Timothy Daniel Hay.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Traditions Health Hospice for their excellent service, which contributed greatly to Donald and Dorothy's quality of life in recent months.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Donald's name to The Gideons International.
