Rick Hyde Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hutchens-Stygar Funeral & Cremation Center & Confluence Center on Feb. 16, 2026.
With his beloved family at his side, Rick Hyde, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12th, 2026 after a brief illness at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles.

He was born on July 24th, 1948, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, to the late Lloyd Hyde and Isabel Hyde Stewart. He was the loving husband of 35 years to Lucie Chartrand and the devoted father of Jeremy (Elyse), Jessica (Brian), Dominique (Hunter), and the late Derek Hyde. He was the eldest brother of Linda (Ed), Tom (Jan), Bob (Laurel), Helen, and Doug (Sharalyn) and dear brother-in-law of Lise, Denise, Nicole (Jacques), and Suzanne (Philippe). He is also survived by his extended family: Rob, Crissy, Hannah, Ryan, and Georgia. He was a beloved uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Whether traveling North America for his lengthy career, or the wider world with the love of his life, Rick made friends everywhere he went thanks to his warm and kind demeanor. Rick cultivated many of his memorable personality traits growing up on his family's farm, like a strong work ethic and a gift for turning neighbors into family. He spent his life pursuing a variety of hobbies, including gardening, woodworking, cooking, and bread-baking. His adventurous and compassionate spirit led him to dedicate his retirement to the mission of providing affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity. Rick's legacy of love, generosity, and adventure will live on in the homes he helped build and the hearts of all who knew him.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21st from 2-5pm at Hutchens-Stygar Funeral Home. He will later be laid to rest on the family farm in Portage La Prairie, where he grew up. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity – St. Charles, the Karen Weidinger Foundation, or SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff of SSM St. Joseph Hospital ICU for their dedication and compassionate care, especially Lauren, Sam, Mary, Kenzie, Yolanda, Dr. Trout, Dr. Uhls, Dr. Coriasso, Dr. Trupka. We would also like to recognize his team of specialists: Dr. Enger, Dr. Orf, and Dr. Singer, and Dr. Ziaee.

Rick will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
