“Gone Truckin”!
Rick passed away on January 23, 2026, in Draper, Utah, from complications related to heart failure. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend whose life was marked by creativity, laughter, music, and the love of the open road.
He was born on February 8, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Floyd Wallace “Bud” Mounteer, Sr., and Beverly Lois Wilkins Laputka. He grew up riding horses, hunting, and fishing with his brothers and dad. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and, after returning home, spent time on the rodeo circuit with his brother, Max.
Rick was an extremely talented musician who could play almost any instrument and loved to play his guitar and sing. He was a very talented artist and, for many years, owned and operated Classic Glass, where he etched his drawings into the glass of vehicles and other pieces of art. Rick loved fast cars and especially classic cars. He restored many old cars and loved driving around in his Ford Ranchero. He spent 53 years as a long-haul truck driver operating his own classic Kenworth and Peterbuilt trucks and driving all over the country with his heeler dog always by his side.
He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Patience, parents Bud and Bevy, Brother Floyd Wallace, Jr. (Buddy), and Grandson Jacob Potter.
He is survived by his daughters, Joey (Chris) Leung, Draper; Angela (Frank) Willemsz, (South Jordan); and Dianna Potter, Iowa, and 11 grandsons. His brother Max Mounteer (Holly), Manti, and sister Cindy (Dave) Francisco, Oregon.
