Ricky J. Thompson, 65, passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at his home in Effingham, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, July 22, 2024 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
Rick was born June 14, 1959 in Shelbyville, the son of William Joseph "Joe" and Patsy (Holley) Thompson. He married Nancy Warner in 1976. Rick was an avid sportsman. He loved golfing, watching Cardinal baseball, Illini basketball, and especially his grandchildren's sports and activities. Rick treasured time with his friends and family and always had a smile for everyone. He was a member of the Effingham Elks, Cardinal Golf Course, and the Mattoon Country Club. Rick will be greatly missed by all, including his beloved pets, Tulah and Bleu.
Rick is survived by his wife, Nancy of Effingham; son, Josh (Kari) Thompson; daughter, Kim (John) Buening; mother, Patsy Thompson; brother, Stan (Paula) Thompson; sisters, Tina (Rennie) Carroll, Sharon (Tracy) Vonderheide, and Karla (Rich) Gleason; grandchildren, Bennet, Henry, and Mason Thompson, Wil, Jack, Faith, and Blake Buening.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Joe Thompson.
