Rita C. Gomez, a beloved matriarch, passed away on February 18, 2026, in her lifelong home in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on August 14, 1946, Rita enriched the lives of all who knew her with her kind spirit and unwavering love for her family.

Rita’s life was a tapestry of cherished moments, rooted deeply in her hometown. She held a special affinity for sweet pleasures, particularly pink cakes from La Michoacana, which brought joy to her gatherings. Her passion for sports was evident in her loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs, teams she supported with fervor, embodying the warmth and enthusiasm of a true fan. Rita found enjoyment in the thrill of scratch-off tickets, affectionately referring to them as "Rasca," a pastime that reflected her playful spirit.

Above all, Rita devoted her heart to her children and grandchildren, a love that knew no bounds. She is survived by her loving children, Rosario Longoria, Joe Gomez (Laura), and Javier Gomez; as well as 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory. Rita also leaves behind her beloved siblings, Celia Erebia, Corina (Manuel) Caballero, Juana Esquivel, and Fernando Cruz; along with a large extended family that admired her strength and compassion.

Rita is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Federico Gomez, whose partnership brought joy and companionship to her life. She is also reunited in spirit with her parents, Francisco and Santos Cruz, her son, Federico Gomez Jr.; and son-in-law, Ted Longoria; along with some of her cherished siblings.

As we remember Rita C. Gomez, we celebrate a life rich in love, laughter, and connection. Her legacy will continue to shine brightly through the generations she so dearly loved.
