Rita Konczal, age 97, passed away on June 29, 2024 at Otterbein Skilled Nursing Facility in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Rita was born on May 6, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to Charles and Pearl (Jagielski) Posadny. She attended Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1945.
She married Eugene Konczal on April 26, 1947 and moved to Rossford, Ohio where she lived for 77 years. Rita worked for the Toledo Board of Education for 30 years retiring in 2000.
She was a member of St. Mary Magdalen/All Saints Catholic church for 77 years where she was a Eucharistic Minister, an active member of the Altar Rosary Society, their Funeral Luncheon Committee, and the Feed Your Neighbor Program. She also volunteered for the yearly parish festival and over the years helped make thousands of pierogi.
Rita loved watching her grandkids participate in sports and she attended numerous games and other activities. She was their biggest cheerleader, on and off the field or court. Trips to Rome with her family were something Rita looked always looked forward to. And being at midnight Mass on Christmas Eve at St. Peter's Basilicia was very special to her. She looked forward to her yearly trips to "Amish Country" with her kids and she enjoyed several trips to the casino with her numerous groups of friends, where she usually went home with more money than she had when she got there. More recently, she realized that she really did enjoy bingo and frustrated the other players because the "newcomer" usually came away the winner.
She is survived by her children Marie Geisel, Eugene (Nina), Gregory (Marcia) and
Therese (David) Hoff, her grandchildren Aaron (Robin) Geisel, Christian (Dory) Geisel,
Clare (Larry) Hinz, Regina (James) Kaczorowski, Nina Lepiarz, Nicholas (Amber) Geisel,
Monica (Ben) Hutchisson, Bridget (Kurtis) Carpenter, Michael Booth, Joshua (Karen) Konczal, Emily (William) Riffle, Anthony (Shelley) Konczal, Nathan (Aimee) Konczal, Philip (Amanda) Konczal, Monica (Brad) Smith, Elizabeth (James) Foster, Russell (Amy) Hoff, Justin (Andrea) Hoff, Benjamin (Libby) Hoff, Abigail (Jason Zielinski) Vaillant, 42 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Judy Sullivan, special nephews Michael and Daniel Sullivan and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her granddaughter
Sara (Konczal) Booth, her son-in-law, Gary Geisel, her great grandson Samuel Geisel, her brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Joan Posadny, a brother Charles Perry, and in-laws Rita and Joseph Kaminski.
A visitation will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Rossford from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2024 with a funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Father Scott Woods. Private interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Toledo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Rita may be given to All Saints Catholic Church, Rossford. Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
