Rita Lynn Piatt, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Otterbein Senior Life Franklin in Franklin.

Born August 14, 1945, in Belle Fountaine, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William Edwin and Betty Phillys (Swisher) Piatt.

Rita was a 1963 graduate of North Vernon High School. She was a hairstylist and worked for Bev's Salon and Smart Style, both in Madison, House of James Beauty Instructor in Seymour, Huffer's Beauty College Instructor in Columbus and Madison Prison Inmate Instructor in Madison. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies. Her enjoyments were sewing, painting, reading and horses.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie (Leah) Lawson of Austin, Texas; her daughters, Lisa Lawson of North Vernon; and Phillis (Paul) Harlow of Indianapolis; sisters, Sharynn (Darrell) Patterson and Billi Jean Gryphon, both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Siearrha (James Stark) Ross of Seymour, Sheyenne Weber of North Vernon, Courtney (Brandon) Leckrone of Greensburg, Travis Acton of Columbus, Quinten Lawson and Kai Dawson, of Austin, Texas, and twelve great-grandchildren, Harley Pettit of Columbus, Kylie Jeffries of North Vernon, Mireya Weber of Layayette, Alykzander Leckrone, Lylliahnna Leckrone, Izabell Bridges, Grayciella Leckrone, Brycezen Bridges, and Annaliya Leckrone, all of Greensburg, Destinee Ross of Madison, Vanessa Ross and Preston Wyatt Ross, both of Seymour.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Don W. Piatt.

A funeral service for Rita will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Rita to Mercy Rescue and Adoption Inc.
