All are welcome to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, December 16th in the Immaculate Conception Church, 133 Beach St, Revere at 10:30 a.m., for Rita S. Priore, who was stricken on Tuesday, November 26th while attending a Thanksgiving event surrounded by her friends, colleagues and community. She later passed away at the CHA - Everett Hospital. She was 90 years old. Interment will immediately follow with Rita being laid to rest with her parents in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Rita was born on February 14, 1934 in Revere to Joseph Priore and Settimia (Forte) Priore. She was one of two children and was raised and educated in Revere. Rita was an alumna of Revere High School, Class of 1952. Rita knew early on that her lifelong passion was education. She attended Boston University where she earned her A.B. in Romance Languages in 1956. In 1957, she began to earn her master's in education at Boston University in 1959. Rita's thirst for learning was immense, she would go onto take evening courses at Harvard university earning certificates in French, German and Italian. French being her favorite.
Rita began her career at Revere High School in June of 1959, as a high school guidance counselor, later becoming the head of the language department. She would teach French, Italian and English to the Revere students. Rita was passionate for languages and had an incredible way with the students and how she taught. She had a career that spanned 40 years of truly dedicated service to the City of Revere enriching generations of students. She retired on June 30, 1999.
Rita was a very devoted & loving daughter to both of her parents, caring for them for all of her life, especially in their later years when they became ill and infirmed. Rita was a devoted parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Revere and a faithful communicant. She was also devoted to her community, she was a member of the Revere Senior Center, a former member of the Catholic Daughter's of America, she volunteered at community events and several others. Rita would share her time between Revere and at her home on Cape Cod in Chatham, where she enjoyed her time there. May the memories of Rita be our blessing, and we pray she will live on in our hearts forever. She is the devoted daughter of the late Joseph and Settimia Priore. Dear sister of the late Ron Priore. She is survived by her sister-in-law, her nephew, her niece, and their children. She is also lovingly survived by friends, colleagues, neighbors, and former students.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
