Robert John Hemmingsen II, age 70, passed away at Methodist Hospital in Omaha on August 6, 2025.
"If there ever was a man who could take on any challenge..."
He was born October 17, 1954 to Robert J. I and Lois (Marisch) Hemmingsen in Primrose, NE.
He was preceded in death by father, Robert John Hemmingsen I; step-father "Dad", Jess Goss.
Rob is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cheryl Hemmingsen; children, John Hemmingsen (Julie), Shannon Benna, Mark Hemmingsen, Robert John "RJ" Hemmingsen III (Harper), and Luke Hemmingsen; mother, Lois Goss; 3 siblings; grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends.
Rob graduated in 1973 from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He became a certified iron worker/welder in 1979. He graduated with an associates degree from Iowa Western Community College in 1985. Rob developed and was awarded 4 United States Patents for satellite alignment devices. His early work life consisted of many years at Asarco in Omaha, Nebraska. He was recognized by his peers and elected union president. Afterwards starting the role as co-owner/operator of All Home Central in Council Bluffs, IA.
Rob started a family and was blessed with his sons John and Mark. Later he added his wife Cheryl, and daughter Shannon to his family, and enjoyed life together. The family then blossomed with the addition of sons RJ III and Luke. Each one of his children were his pride and joy.
Away from his technical and work life, he had many passions. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and loved to travel. Inspired by his two youngest sons, he bravely started swimming competitively at the age of 69 and achieved some remarkable national rankings in the US Masters swimming program.
Rob especially enjoyed the home he built with his own two-hands, his golden retrievers (and their puppies), sunsets, much laughter and good times with his family.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, August 15, 2025. The family will direct memorials for St. Jude’s's Children Research Hospital Charity.
