Robert Frank Alexis, of
Levittown, PA, passed peacefully into the Lord's arms on July 25, 2023, just 5 days short of his 83rd birthday. Born in Pittston and raised in Port Griffith, PA, he was the son of the late William and Frances (Starolis) Alexis and husband of the late Nancy Alexis (Oley).
As a young man, Robert enjoyed playing baseball and spending time with his family, cousins, and many friends, often earning him various nicknames such as "Bobby," "Chief," and "Taxi." In particular, he looked up to his Uncle Frank Keder who inspired him to enlist in the United States Air Force in 1959 where he dutifully and honorably served as a clerk at Lackland Air Base in
San Antonio, Texas until 1965.
In 1962, Robert married Nancy Oley, his high school sweetheart. After leaving the military, he moved his young family to Levittown where he began working for the U.S. Steel Mill in the Open Hearth at Fairless Works. About 28 years later, he then got a job operating equipment and driving the snowplow for PennDOT until his retirement in 2002. As a young father, Robert inspired his three sons with his love of baseball, coaching their Little League teams or cheering from the sidelines. He also played softball for the US Steel Fast-Pitch Softball League. Summer vacations were spent fishing, swimming, and making memories at his brother's cottage on Lake Wallenpaupack.
After losing his beloved Nancy, wife of 34 years in 1996, Robert kept busy by visiting family and friends, venturing out with his daughter, Kathleen on all types of excursions. He often enjoyed taking daily walks to the park, feeding the ducks, and chatting with his neighbors. Road trips were made to country music concerts at the Allentown Fair and area sporting events, dance recitals and martial arts for his grandchildren. Many hours were spent watching CMT, old westerns and war movies and listening to country music and polkas. Keeping a meticulous lawn, squirrel, groundhogs, and skunks never stood a chance in the backyard of the world's most renowned "wildlife trapper"!
Robert was a passionate sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Browns. He also followed the Cleveland Indians, Boston Celtics and enjoyed watching Coach Geno and UConn Women's Basketball. In addition to being a long-time season ticket holder of the Trenton Thunder, he often could be found making the rounds to area minor league baseball parks with his sons or his buddies from PennDOT. Robert never left home without a baseball hat that sported one of his favorite teams.
With an easy-going personality and a strong "gift to gab," Robert was friendly to everyone he encountered on his weekly trips to Pathmark, church, and the park. He often displayed his goofy side as he relentlessly teased and egged on his children and grandchildren, to whom he became known and endeared as "Pops" or "PePop." But perhaps what Robert will be best known for was the relentless love and dedication he demonstrated as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be eternally missed.
Robert is survived by his loving children, Bruce (Maria), Gary (Carol), and Kathleen, along with five grandchildren, Kalena, Abigail, Cole, Emily, and Bryce. Robert is predeceased by his son, Robert Alexis, Jr. (Denise), along with his brothers, Joseph and William.
Family and friends are invited to Robert's Life Celebration on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 6:00-8:00pm at Dunn-Givnish Funeral Home, 378 South Bellevue Avenue, Langhorne, PA 19047 and again from 8:30-9:30am at Saint Frances Cabrini Church, 325 South Oxford Valley Road, Fairless Hills, PA 19030. His Funeral Mass will follow at 9:30am.
