Our beloved father, Robert N. Allton died at home on February 8, 2025.

Robert was born in Peoria IL in 1926. As a child, he was active in Boy Scouts. In high school, he played the cornet for the marching band and could operate movie projectors.

He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1944-1946. After he completed training the war ended and he was honorably discharged. He returned to Peoria and worked for various local companies like Pabst Brewing and also for Caterpillar Tractor. He attended classes at Peoria's Bradley University on the GI Bill. In 1952, he met our mother, Iona at a social club for single adults. They married a year later and eventually moved west, joining my aunts and uncles as Colorado residents. Soon they welcomed daughter Lisa and another daughter, Debra five years later. Robert joined the US Postal service in 1967 where he remained until retirement in 1990. His last position at the post office was facilities manager. He worked on maintenance problems at three Boulder locations, Downtown, the postal Annex and High Mar Station.

In retirement dad often put his facilities skills to use with home, car repairs and building projects. He and my mother did some domestic travel and enjoyed pets. In his 90s after mom passed away, dad could often be found listening to his extensive collection of classical music with a cat by his side. He talked of highlights of his younger years-like seeing Charles Lindenberg and going to the 1933 Chicago World's fair with his cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his sister Marion Farrel of Zionsville IN, wife of 68 years, Iona, and his younger brother James who died in childhood. He is survived by his daughters. Services will be held at Mountain View Methodist Church in March. Since Robert was never without a cat anyone wishing to make donations should make them to the Boulder Valley Humane Society in his name.
