Robert Auerbach Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herman Meyer & Son, Inc. on May 9, 2024.
May 7, 2024 ~ 29 Nisan, 5784
Rob Auerbach, a spirited and adventurous soul, passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2024, on his farm in Kentucky surrounded by his wife and daughters, who he affectionately referred to as "his girls." Incredibly, he managed to fulfill his final wish and attended the 150th running of The Kentucky Derby just days before he left his body. Rob was known for his intuitive business sense, good humor, and love for life. He leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary accomplishments and unbelievable stories.
Born on March 28th, 1952 to Minx and Sy Auerbach, Rob was always a free spirit who fearlessly pursued his passions, embracing every opportunity with enthusiasm and determination. He was a captivating storyteller and lived a life that provided ample material.
His adventurous spirit led him to explore the world, seeking out experiences that broadened his life and inspired those around him. He woke up every day with the intention to live life to the fullest.
Rob was an entrepreneur from a young age, creating several successful businesses throughout his life that are part of the legacy he leaves behind. He playfully proclaimed that "math was his best subject," and he exercised those skills through his business endeavors, handicapping horses, and explanations about how "margin is your friend."
Rob was an avid pilot and was passionate about horse racing, cycling, beekeeping, live music, and traveling. He will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, genuine warmth, and his uncanny ability to make those around him feel special and like they belonged. Rob had a huge impact on his friends, family, and community. He was a steadying force of calm during a crisis.
A celebration of Rob's life will be held on May 10th, 2024, at The Temple, in Louisville, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Temple or The Olmsted Parks Conservancy, in honor of Rob's commitment to the community.
Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Minx Mansbach Auerbach and Dr S.P. "Sy" Auerbach. He is survived by his wife Pumpkin Auerbach; two children, Summer Auerbach (S. Brandon Coan) and Star Auerbach (Aaron Lubrick); four grandchildren, Noah Auerbach, Levi Lubrick, Elijah Lubrick, and Simon Coan; his siblings Keith Auerbach (Lynn Walker), Penny Auerbach Friedberg (Jean); and his many "Mahuttens" (you know who you are).

i very happily worked at rainbow blossom for several years with my boyfriend Tom, a long time employee and spiritual figure at the shop... We were still making bread, so the kitchen was winding down... sometime in the early 80s... An idyllic period For many of us... Rob and Pumpkin provided a place where we could feel at home and offer loving service... I will always be grateful to both of them... so much intentional healing communion took place under their wings... Rob was such an electric, yet laid-back figure, breezing in and out to confer with Sharon and Tom... and of course He made all of our shelves and many walls, which brought such a homey well-crafted feel to the space... such a lovely place to share healing stories with customers...
i remember his regular respite with his magazine... Emerging with good humor after long consideration ...
i gratefully recall the fun of his gifts to us, given with a twinkle... He was generous in his gratitude... such a bright light in those amazing blue eyes...enlivening his look of perpetual amazement...big grin...eyebrows climbing high above that lovely mustache... A beautiful man, and ever so charming... Well grounded in partnership with Pumpkin, in her feminine wisdom and her earthy, yet bubbly and elementally refined energy. i feel for her and all their descendants in this transition...may you have profound dreams with him and much comfort in his freedom...
now he is dissolving back into nature... i look forward to that myself!

The Auerbach family is so special to ours. Rainbow Blossom was so well planned from the start, and still so much loved! I remember with great fondness kind and fun Minx and Sy....It just seems like yesterday they were with us all.

Sending peace and love to you all in your sadness. We share it with you.

Rob is a legend in the candy industry, and his enthusiasm and steady flow of "big ideas" will leave a void difficult to fill.

My deepest sympathies to his family and team. RIP my friend....
