Preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Sybil Hines Bates; siblings, Jim and Albert Bates, Charlotte Swaggerty, Judy Hayes, and Barbara Witt; son-in-law, Jeffery Cable; granddaughter, Heather Pratt Miranda.
Survived by his wife of 64 years, Minnie June Grandstaff Bates; son, Gary (Jennifer) Bates; daughters, Pennie Cable, Karen (Rod) Strange; grandchildren, Taylor Anne (Tyler) Catlett, Danny (Abby) Bates, Jacob (Anna Katherine) Pratt, Garrett (Jess) Cable, Eric (Jennie) Wilhite, Cimber (Daniel) Smith, Danica (Chris) Douglass; great grandchildren, Alyssa Miranda, Blake (Reagan) Miranda, Brianne Miranda, Brooke (Trey Prater) Miranda, Holden Pratt, Pierce Davis Pratt, Owen Pratt, Carson Cable, Silas Wilhite, Jack Wilhite, Charley Anne Wilhite, Lacey Douglass, and Jasper Douglass; great-greatgrandchildren, Kaylani, Kamari, Brelynn, and Devin.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Lyons Creek Baptist Church with a masonic service at 7:00 PM and a funeral service to follow with Rev. Mark Williams officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Trentville Cemetery for an 11:00 AM Interment.
Pallbearers; Jacob Pratt, Garrett Cable, Eric Wilhite, Danny Bates, Blake Miranda, and Tyler Catlett. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor his life and friendship may make memorial contributions to Lyons Creek Baptist Church Youth Program 9235 Strawberry Plains Pike, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871.
