Robert "Bob" Edward Bauer, of Louisville, Kentucky, returned to his Heavenly Father on May 18, 2025, at Baptist Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born November 6, 1951, in Louisville, KY to Charles J. Bauer, Sr and Mary Columba (Lynch) Bauer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Ann (Worland) Bauer.
He was a retired Louisville police officer where he devoted 25 years of service. After retiring from the police department, he worked for the Kentucky Department of Transportation as a Right of Way Agent for 16 years. Bob and Nancy were long time members of St. Martha Catholic Church. He was a graduate of DeSales High School and Bellarmine University.
On April 27, 2025, Bob celebrated the 20-year anniversary of receiving a lifesaving liver transplant. Bob made a point to thank and talk about his donor, Michael, who tragically died at the age of 25, but saved many lives by being an organ donor. Bob was an avid supporter of Kentucky Trust for Life (Donate Life). He never took a moment of life for granted and viewed every moment after his transplant as a gift to be cherished. He was an amateur ham radio operator (KC4HM), where he was involved in various clubs and participated in many events for 30+ years. He was also an avid space enthusiast and was a member of the group Space Hipsters where he attended many conventions and volunteered at many events. Bob's prized moment was getting to work with Astronaut Jack Lousma and his daughter at Spacefest 2019 in Tucson, Arizona.
He is survived by his son, Kevin (Katrina); daughter, Lauren (Josh) Partin; and grandchildren, William and Aurora. He is also survived by his siblings, Chuck (Denise) Bauer, Mary Alice (Wakely) Purple, Larry (Jackie) Bauer, Barbara (Ron) Diebold, Jack Bauer, Steve (Darlene) Bauer, Judy (Jim) Ketterer, and Ken (Debi) Bauer. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
Visitation for Bob will be from 2-8PM on Tuesday, May 27 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. A Funeral Mass will be at 10AM on Wednesday, May 28 at St Martha Church, 2825 Klondike Lane.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Kentucky Trust for Life.

Bob and I were partners with the Louisville Police Dept for 4 years in the 1970s. I was fresh out of the academy and Bob had been on about a year and a half. We learned how to be police officer together. Bob was about a year older than me. I was 21 years old and Bob was 22 or 23. A couple young cops learning to survive as partners. Have many fond memories and experiences during those 4 years. Have a lot of respect for Bob. Rest in peace my friend.

Condolences and prayers to the family.
