Robert Daniel Bean, 82, of Columbus, NC passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025. He was born in Columbia, SC on July 7, 1943, to the late John McBride Bean, Jr. and Gertrude Bailey Bean.
After graduating from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country with pride for four years. After returning home, he became the co-owner and operator of multiple Coin Laundry laundromats across the state, the first of which opened in Aiken, SC.
Besides his entrepreneurial spirit, Robert was also known for his generosity. He was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg. He recently attended Saint John The Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, NC. His faith and love of others led him to donate much of his time and money to those around him. Robert was also a ham radio operator and cruise ship casino lover.
He is survived by his sister, Bonnie B. Wacker; nephews, Christopher J. Walker, Craig J. Wacker (Susanne), and Teddy Chalgren (Christine); niece, Jennifer W. Mangum (Andrew); great-nieces and nephews, Julie Walker, Daniel Walker, Brittany W. Nicholson (Andrew), Valery Wacker, Austin Mangum, Benjamin Mangum, Holly Chalgren, and Carter Chalgren; two great-great-nieces; and friend, Marilyn Doheny. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Ann Bean Warlick (Halford).
Visitation will be 9:00-9:45 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in the Narthex of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 290 E Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29302. Memorial Mass will follow at 10:00am, conducted by Father David Whitman.
In memory of Robert, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N Dean St, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to Saint John The Baptist Catholic Church, 180 Laurel Ave, Tryon, NC 28782.
