Robert Beebe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Walker Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Plattsburgh on Mar. 20, 2025.
Robert John Beebe "Capt'n Bob", Born 12-24-1933 Passed 3-15-2025.
Bob was born in Alexandria Bay, NY to Vilas H. Beebe and Lena E. (Mance) Boles. He graduated from Alexandria Bay High School in 1951, Canton ATC in 1953 (AAS), SUNY Teachers College at Oswego in 1953 (BS), and St. Lawrence University (MS). Bob also served in the US Air Force during the Korean War (1953-1955). Was a member of The American Legion Post 1619 in West Plattsburgh. In 1964 Robert married Ms. Kathleen A. Madill of Heuvelton in Canton NY on August 17. Together they raised 3 sons: Gregory (Syracuse), Douglas (Jennifer) and Raymond of Plattsburgh.
During summers while home in his early years from college, Capt Bob was a Tour Boat Captain for the Paul Boat Linesin Alexandria Bay NY. This is how he was called CAPT. He also helped construct the St. Lawrence SeaWay. His first teaching job was at Heuvelton High School and then on to Oswego High School. Eventually Ted Welsh, childhood friend, told him about a Guidance Counselor position at the BOCES in Plattsburgh. This position he held for 27 years (2-1966 to 12-1992), where he helped guide the students of the North Country to learn a lifelong trade.
Some of the Capt Bob's favorite past times were playing golf, cribbage at the Mall, playing cards with his Buddies and going to the Casino with friends. What he really liked to do was watching his grandsons (Owen and Seth Beebe) play sports of all kinds. Also watching his son Doug play softball at the Legion in West Plattsburgh, and to cheer him and Ray on in all the basketball leagues they played in. He was Peabodys' BB best and only fan, which all the players on those teams Loved! Later in life he became son's Greg and Ray's fishing partner on the St Lawrence River and Lake Champlain. Ray mentioned often that the Capt'n was something of a netter. He made many trips to the St. Lawrence River, where he would meet up with Greg and his relatives to fish, work, and tell some really loooong tales!! The most enjoyment he ever had was traveling with Kathleen (wife of 62 yrs) and friends to different areas of the United States. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife and a man that would do anything for his family and anyone who needed it. Bob was predeceased by his younger brother, LTC Donald Beebe.
Memorial Services will be announced at a later date. No funeral will be had to honor Bob's wishes.

The Rugar family is sending love in the loss of Mr. Beebe, he was such a an influence to so many kids growing up, and his kindness will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace and his memories live on, thinking of all of you.

Great guy. great memories of Bob and the river.
He and Ted used to bust each other up at BOCES in Plattsburgh too.
Few years ago I saw him in the dentist waiting room at the Bay and we chatted. I told him I remembered when he hit the shoal at the foot of Marys Island driving the Shamrock, and he quickly reminded me that was a different pilot not him. We had a great chuckle over that. Always liked seeing Bob. Genuine River rat. Condolences to his lovely family.
