He was born on February 26, 1936, in Tifton Georgia to Frances Maddox Bennett and J.B. Bennett. He graduated from Tifton High School and then the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. After several years of singing leading tenor opera roles, he was challenged to dedicate his life to full time Christian service. He served in four different churches dating from 1966 to 2023 in Georgia, Tennessee and Florida as Minister of Music, Youth and Senior Adults. He served in ministry at First Baptist Church in Stuart, Florida from 1988 to 2023.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Thomas Bennett, of 63 years. Their children are daughter, Stephanie Irwin (Mike) of Palm City, Florida, with grandchildren Amanda, Joshua, and Matthew; son, Robert N. Bennett, JR (Suzanne) of Sanford, Florida, with grandchildren Austin, Kyler, Abigail, and Brianna; and daughter, Christina Nestor (Jeff) of Malabar, Florida.
A Celebration of Life Service with Dr. Darrell Ormon officiating will be held at Forest Hills Palm City Chapel at 11 AM on Friday, October 20th with visitation at 10 AM for friends and relatives followed by a graveside service and ending with a luncheon at First Baptist Church in Stuart, Florida.
Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends or contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church of Stuart.
